After years of attempting traditional publishing and only snagging a short story in a small newsletter, I thought, ‘what am I doing? I could be spending this time writing more.’ So I did, I wrote for a long time, between life events such as graduate school, marriage, growing a career. Once the prose starting feeling ready for the world, I decided to start my own imprint. I chose the name Grass Valley a long time ago in a life where I was a technical director for a public access television show. The equipment was not state of the art, even for 1997. But the “production switcher” (the machine I used to switch cameras) was made by a company called "Grass Valley Group." I imagined a big field of open grass that stretched on for miles (think the background for Windows XP). That image stayed with me for over two decades, and the name stuck. Hence, Grass Valley Publishers.
