After years of attempting traditional publishing and only snagging a short story in a small newsletter, I thought, ‘what am I doing? I could be spending this time writing more.’ So I did, I wrote for a long time, between life events such as graduate school, marriage, growing a career. Once the prose starting feeling ready for the world, I decided to start my own imprint. I chose the name Grass Valley a long time ago in a life where I was a technical director for a public access television show. The equipment was not state of the art, even for 1997. But the “production switcher” (the machine I used to switch cameras) was made by a company called "Grass Valley Group." I imagined a big field of open grass that stretched on for miles (think the background for Windows XP). That image stayed with me for over two decades, and the name stuck.
